The following three trends are available in both designer and discount versions.

There are several spring trends that are demonstrated by major designers, but if the prices are too steep, there are multiple alternatives to achieve the same look. The designer version can be used for inspiration; the less expensive version can be the one to purchase.

Necklace Watches

Marc by Marc Jacons has a daisy watch pendant for spring 2009. Available in green or white, it hangs on a long gold chain and is a fashionable alternative to wearing a regular watch (for purists, the daisy shape also does come in a regular white watch.)

For those wishing to avoid the $175 price tag, watch necklaces can be found at a less expensive price. Urban Outfitters, for example, has a $28 steel-framed watch on a 26” chain. The back of the watch has a flower outline so that both sides are attractive. The watch is simple enough that it appears more expensive than it is.

A quick search on Google brings up hundreds of necklace watches, from stores, online stores as well as auctions and eBay, Sometimes watches on keychains can be easy to find -- if this is the case, simply remove the keychain and add a long necklace chain instead.

Sunglasses

It wouldn’t be spring without a pair of sunglasses, and the bright-color trend applies here as well. Ray-Ban is showing many bright colors, such as red and violet, for about $128,

But one store that routinely has bright sunglasses is Forever 21 (often in colors such as pink.) They are always less than $10, and since many people want a new pair of sunglasses for every season, what could be more affordable than that?

Big, Costume Jewelry

Big bauble cocktail rings, chunky necklaces and dangle earrings are all over the runways for fall. Forget designer prices for this trend -- head to Banana Republic for their ever-changing display of creative jewelry. They routinely follow the season’s trends, and right now have necklaces with multiple layers and strands.

A no-money option for jewelry like this? Ask an elderly friend or relative -- a grandmother, for instance, if they’ve kept jewelry from the past. Costume jewelry has never looked so “now” since it was first in fashion.

Chunky necklaces look chic against simple T-shirts, perfect for spring. Some of this season's earrings go practically to the women's shoulders, which may be more appropriate for a night out, but smaller versions can be found. Another "big earring" option is to avoid dangles but find a large stone or shape, such as a big flower.
